The 1940’s Radio Hour

Fabled WOV, a little New York radio station takes to the air at the beginning of World War II, to record a live broadcast of “The Mutual Manhattan Variety Cavalcade” from the Hotel Astor’s Algonquin Room on December 21, 1942.

The spirit of that bygone era is accurately captured as harassed producer, Clifton Feddington, copes with a difficult lead singer, Johnny Cantone, as well as a delivery boy who wants a chance in front of the mic, a second banana who dreams of singing a ballad, and a sound effects man who chooses a fighter plane over Glenn Miller.
